4th Edition

The 4th Edition of Halsbury's Laws of England commenced publication in 1973 and was originally published by Butterworths, London. The original edition was issued in 56 volumes under the editorship of Lord Hailsham of St Marylebone.

The 4th Edition was subsequently maintained through cumulative supplements, current service updates and reissued volumes, making it an important reference source for historical and legal research.

5th Edition

The 5th Edition of Halsbury's Laws of England commenced publication in 2008 and is the current edition. It is published by LexisNexis and is progressively updated through the reissue of individual volumes.

Because the 5th Edition is updated on a continuing basis, volumes within a set may have different publication and revision dates. When purchasing a used or second-hand set, it is therefore important to check the edition, volume numbers and dates of the individual volumes.
